After the sell out success of Belvedere House’s Green Santa in Narnia last year and to celebrate the worldwide release of the latest Disney/Walden Media Chronicles of Narnia movie “The Voyage of The Dawn Treader”, Green Santa is back with a Nautical theme.
Green Santa will arrive at Belvedere House at 11am on Sunday 25th November by boat across Lough Ennell and will proceed to his magical grotto beyond the Wardrobe in the frozen land of Narnia. Children will enter through the enchanted Wardrobe in the indoor courtyard and travel through Narnia to visit Green Santa in his grotto where a replica of The Dawn Treader ship awaits
GREEN SANTA IN NARNIA AT BELVEDERE HOUSE
For 2011, Narnia at Belvedere House goes back in time again, back to when Father Christmas wore Green robes, in Victorian Times. Modern day Santa Claus is red because of association with Coca Cola’s 1930’s advertising campaigns and from Thomas Nast’s earlier cartoons, but before he was Red he was Green.
This year is the United Nations International Year of the Forest and once again Green Santa who knows his roots, has a message for Children everywhere. Christmas is not just about Toys there are other gifts that are far more important. Children will visit Green Santa in his magical grotto after entering another world through the enchanted Narnia Wardrobe and will receive natural gifts. Green Santa will help the children pot up seasonal native Irish trees such as Holly and Scots pine which the children can plant in their gardens at home. This is the third year of Green Santa who has already distributed nearly 5’000 trees. The Tree grows alongside the child at home and can be a lifetime memory of that special visit. Wildflower seed shakers for attracting fairies and flutter bys into your garden and old fashioned Victorian Candy canes are other Green Santa treats from his Dawn Treader boat.
“There is a simple magic in Christmas that we want children to rediscover and by using the magic of Nature in watching your tree grow from a potted sapling into a majestic Fir tree or berried Holly Bush and to see your carpet of Wildflowers in bloom, can foster a lifelong interest for Children in the Natural Environment.” said Bartle D’Arcy Belvedere General Manager.
Green Santa is in for a bit of a voyage himself arriving in Narnia by boat from across Lough Ennell at Belvedere on Sunday 25th November at 11am and will be there each weekend up to Christmas. This is an activity based Santa experience suitable for children 4 years and upwards. Adults go free to House Gardens and Park with Green Santa booking. Prices are 1 Child €12, Each additional child €10. Under 3’s accompanying other children go free. This also includes entry to the House Gardens and Park. Treat your children to a magical Christmas experience with Green Santa in Narnia at Belvedere House. Booking is advised on (044) 9349060

Belvedere House will be decorated in a Victorian Christmas style with décor from the grounds of the estate.
THE NARNIA TRAIL.
The parkland on the Belvedere estate bears a remarkable resemblance to the imagined world of Narnia with it’s naturalistic style of hill and hollow which has been punctuated with 18th C melancholic follies built for Lord Belvedere Robert Rochfort. Lord Belvedere’s coat of arms has a rampant Lion in the centre and this lion adorns the terraces of the House and entry into the walled Garden and there are numerous Victorian lamp stands. The estate has developed a Narnia Trail which weaves through the ancient whispering woodland and features different locations from the C.S. Lewis story “The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe”.
“The idea of the Trail is to put a fantasy imprint on our existing follies and take advantage of our magical forests to inspire the imagination of children and encourage active participation over the 3km of the Trail”
Says Bartle D’Arcy Belvedere General Manager
The Trail features The Beaver Dam, Stone Table, White Witch’s Castle and Camp and Cair Paravel where the royal Thrones and Aslan await you. Wear suitable outdoor clothes and allow 40 minutes to complete.
BELVEDERE AND NARNIA.
In 2005 coinciding with the worldwide release of the Walt Disney Walden Media movie “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” Belvedere House was given permission to develop a Christmas Programme based on the Chronicles of Narnia where children entered the frozen land of Narnia through a magical wardrobe in our indoor courtyard on their way to visit Father Christmas. A permanent Narnia Trail was added at this time.

In June 2008 to celebrate the release of the second Chronicles of Narnia Movie “Prince Caspian” Belvedere House organised “A Knight to Remember” tying into the story of the children entering Narnia from a steam train platform by running a special steam train The Narnia Express from Dublin Connolly to Mullingar where 250 people watched Prince Caspian in a private screening at the IMC cinema and later that night enjoyed an outdoor Garden Theatre production of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

For 2011 and the third instalment “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”
Belvedere House’s Father Christmas is wearing his Victorian Green robes planting up trees for children instead of giving plastic toys and in his grotto will be a replica of the Dawn Treader . Green Santa is in for a bit of a voyage himself arriving at Belvedere across Lough Ennell on a boat at 11am on Sunday 27th November.
