The Greatest Show on Earth!
The Belvedere House Self-Sufficiency Show takes place over the weekend of the 16th and 17th April 2011.
The weekend show at the majestic lakeside estate is based on the best selling book John Seymour's Complete Guide to Self-Sufficiency, the bible for all small holders. Guest of honour at the show will be co-author Will Sutherland who will give a variety of seminars over the weekend.
A specially created Self -Sufficiency Garden, Lake Cottage Model Farm will be the centrepiece of the show where you will learn all about, Growing Your Own, Poultry, Bee-Keeping, Pig Breeding, Composting, Food Preserving, Baskerty, Pottery, Home Brewing and a host of other traditional practices.
Aswell as the active model farm, there will be a Self-Sufficiency Seminar arena, a Food/Cookery demonstration Arena and specially designed Children's area with the Naturally Wild Roadshow with Dale Treadwell. A new health arena "Food for Thought" is located in the audio visual area of the visitor centre. New this year is a Rare Plant Fair with a large selection of specialised Nurseries from all over Ireland.
The outdoor Arena will feature practical demonstrations including Bee-Keeping, Traditional Scything and Wood Turning. LOcal Food producers will have the best organic produce for sale and consumption on site from Boxty to hot roast Salmon rolls. The event is crammed full of activities for everyone from the curious to the active participant and this is the perfect place to discover your hidden talents.
" After the passing of The Celtic Tiger there is a "Growing" awareness of the benefits both to body and soul from a healthy active Self-Sufficient lifestyle. However the knowledge has been lost and what we are trying to do with a show like this is to restore the balance" says Bartle D'Arcy, Belvedere General Manager.
