Gardens & Parkland

Belvdere's Parkland and Gardens are full of life at this time of the year, with flowers blooming all around the gardens. The cherry and magnolia blossom are a delight to see. While along many of the woodland walks are masses of wild garlic, fennel and wood anemones.

New additions to belvedere are the Doves and Peacock chicks, which can be seen near the glasshouse in the walled garden. Lough Ennell's visting hooper swans are still with us. They look very like our native mute swan, except they have a yellow bill, they are also much noisier, and they make a hooping sound as they fly and as they communicate with each other. Cormorants can usually be seen sitting on the rocky outcrops offshore of belvedere. Cormorants are one of the largest birds to be seen on Lough Ennell and are a protected species.
